Planning for craft fairs

I have booked a couple of craft fairs this year and have been thinking about different things to make for them, I want to plan a bit better about what to take and have enough stock as one of them is a two day event, last time it was a last minute panic and I didn't enjoy it :-( I have noticed that the alot of visitors to these things are crafters themselves so Plan 1 make things for crafters and since I know about sewing I thought pin cushions and needle books where a good start.

Quite pleased with how they turned out and have listed some in my folksy shop to test the water so to speak, next the needle books :-)

What do you find sells well at craft fairs ?

have a good weekend

  1. I don't sew, but if I did I would want one of those pin cushions, good idea!
I love tote bags, I have no hooks to put them on so that is a problem, but I have started putting lots of craft bits and pieces into them, just to keep them tidy. You know those bit that are funny shaped and don't have a real home. I have so many cardboard boxes stacked up and they are just ugly, bags are nice. I wonder if the was a way to make a very durable fabric covered storage box/solution, I work from my living room, and stacks of brown boxes in a living room is just sad :(

  4. Hi Debbie,

I have a love for textiles too, and am a professional curtain maker - www.curtainlab.co.uk - with a love for all types of craft including handmade fabric handbags. I also make my own jewellery.

Love your pin cushions! I'm new to blogging and you're welcome to follow me too.

Maybe we can swap some ideas, patterns and even fabric!

    Kind Regards,

  5. Hi Debs, I think the pin cushions are gorgeous! You are right about craft shows and crafters. What about knitting bags, knitting needle wraps, little storage bags for crochet hooks, etc. I use the lovely purse you sent me to keep my knitting/crochet things in like scissors, tape measure, cable needles, pins and stitch markers in. I get lots of comments about it at my knitting group and I've noticed most people keep their bits & bobs in pencil cases so some nice knitting purses would be good. I read all the magazines and things like this are nice but can be very expensive, you shoul see the price for some of the knitting bags! Hope this helps. Hugs Dawn Marie.xx

  6. Love the pin cushions, I can hardly thread a needle but if I could I'd have one ! I find lately small cheaper impulse purchases are what they by. I paint and my under a fiver book marks, key rings, necklaces etc fly out but my £20+ things get great comments and lots of umms and Ahhs but dont sell ! your purses and phone pouches would be a good ones ?

  7. Hi Debs, I really like all you do. I think it will all go down well at your craft fairs.
I also make needlecases, from vintage embroidered linens and they sell really well along with pincushions, tea cosies, lavender sachets/hearts, cushions and bags.
Will these be your first craft fairs? I really enjoy doing them - only ever had one dire one (so far).
Good Luck - hope they go well for you and you sell lots of things!
    Debs (too!)

  11. Tea cosies!!! Brilliant idea Deborah! I've been looking for one for ages, all the ones I've found are too big. Paintbrush wraps are fab too Dawn, they must be quite expensive too. You should definitely look into this Debs.xx

  12. Hi! I love all the items in your shop and think you pin cushions are fabulous. I've only done one craft fair - a couple of Christmases ago and found the cheaper items, £5 or under, were the ones to be bought up. I find people don't go out with much cash these days! Good luck at your fairs - look forward to hearing how they go. Elaine
