I have done a lot of thinking this week, my folksy shop has been really busy since Christmas which is brilliant and I am so pleased everyone is liking my new designs. When I started almost a year ago it was a bit of a dream to be able to sew all day and give up my part time job, well I have had to seriously think about it this week. This has made me look closely at my costs and whether I could make a living, no! was the answer, don't you just hate this bit of selling :-( I am going to have to raise my prices in my shops. It will not happen straight away, I want to give people a bit of notice so I thought 1st March and I am going to post a little note in my shops too, I think this is only fair.
Enough of that horrid business stuff and on to something a bit more fun, My GIVEAWAY ends tomorrow so if you have not entered scroll down this page to the 'What's your favourite ?' post and leave you answer.
I have still been sewing this week amongst all the thinking, I have been working on designs for mothers day, here's the first :-)
Have a good weekend

Oooo, that is very pretty.
ReplyDeleteI am glad the folksy shop is doing really well. You are very talented and clever. It would be so lovely to be able to make a living from something you love to do. I am sure people will fully understand your price increase.
Enjoy the rest of your weekend.

Love it! I hope you can give up the day job - it's hard at first, and I think you are right to rethink your prices.
ReplyDeleteYou might be able to find some weekly markets that could be viable, if you are not 'working'.
Good Luck!!
you never know - give it another year, and you might be there! good luck with it all. loving the new designs btw!
ReplyDeleteHi - it is so sad that we struggle to make a living with our lovely homemade goodies. We are never going to be able to compete with mass produced imports, but just have to hope that some people appreciate how long pretty things can take to make. I have toyed with the idea of trying to give up work, but I'm just not sufficiently business-minded. Fingers crossed that your price increases help balance the books.xx
ReplyDeleteI have seen your work on Folksy and think it is lovely. So glad to stumble across your blog!
ReplyDeleteI love your Folksy shop - happy to have found your blog. I love the idea of 'thinking week' but you were actually a week early for those of us in Guides for whom 'Thinking Day' is 22nd Feb.
